Our story

A Sherpa home, two days' walk from Everest — set down in Pokhara.

Taste of Boudha is run by the Sherpa family — host Thupten, who loves nothing more than sharing a tongba and a story, and Pasang, who teaches travellers to fold momos and walks them into the hills. The recipes, the herbs, even the millet for the chhang trace back to the family farm in Kurima, Solukhumbu.

Upstairs there's a Sherpa bar with live music; out back, a garden lit with string lights. It's warm, unpretentious, and proudly home-cooked.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Everything travellers ask before they visit — the food, the bar, reservations and our Sherpa drinks.

What kind of food does Taste of Boudha serve?

Taste of Boudha is a family-run Sherpa, Tibetan and Nepali restaurant and bar in Lakeside, Pokhara. The kitchen specialises in Himalayan home cooking — momo (steamed dumplings), thenthuk and thukpa (noodle soups), syabaley (fried stuffed bread), syapta (sautéed meat), laphing (cold spicy noodles), dal bhat thali, plus traditional drinks like chhang and tongba.

Where is the restaurant and what are the opening hours?

We're on Khahare, Lakeside Street No. 21–22 in Pokhara 33700, Nepal, right next to Three Sisters Adventure Trekking. We open daily from the morning and the bar runs late into the night. Exact daily hours are best confirmed by message before a late visit.

Do you take reservations?

Yes. The fastest way to book a table is to send us a quick WhatsApp message — use the Reserve form on this site and it opens WhatsApp with your details pre-filled. We also welcome walk-ins and offer table service, takeout and delivery via Pathao.

What are chhang and tongba?

Chhang is a traditional Himalayan rice or millet beer — mildly sour, lightly fizzy and homemade. Tongba is hot fermented millet served in a wooden vessel that you sip through a bamboo straw, topping it up with hot water. Both are Sherpa staples and signatures of our bar.

What are syabaley and thenthuk?

Syabaley (sha-pa-ley) is a Tibetan fried bread stuffed with seasoned meat or vegetables. Thenthuk is a warming hand-pulled noodle soup with vegetables — the comfort food trekkers crave after a day in the mountains.

Do you have vegetarian and vegan options?

Plenty. Most momo, noodle, laphing, thali and snack dishes come in a vegetable version, and there's a dedicated vegan breakfast and organic veg thali. Tell us your preference and the kitchen will guide you.

Is the restaurant dog-friendly?

Very. Coco, our Doberman, is the unofficial host, and there's an outdoor garden where well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Do you run momo cooking classes and guided hikes?

Yes — Pasang runs hands-on momo cooking classes where you learn to fold and steam your own dumplings, as well as guided hikes in the hills around Pokhara. Message us on WhatsApp to arrange a date.
